Pai knows her destiny is to become the Whale Rider but her grandfather won't acknowledge that Pai is a potential candidate. In Connecticut, Professor Walter Vale recently loss his wife. He is very lonely and misses her very much. His wife played the piano and he believes that if he learns to play the piano it would provide him comfort and some emotional release. But his piano teacher lets him know that he does not have the talent and offers to buy the piano if he ever wants to sell it. When Walter has to attend a conference in New York, he arrives at his New York apt., and finds Tarek Khalil, a Syrian musician, and Zainab, a Senegalese street vendor living there. When the couple tells him that they have nowhere to go, he sympathizes with the situation of the illegal immigrants and invites the couple to stay with him. Tarek invites him to go to his gig in the Jules Live Jazz and Walter is fascinated with his African drum. Tarek offers to teach Walter to play the drum. Through learning how to play the African drums, Walter discovers a vehicle to express his emotions and is able to heal and create a new life for himself.

This movie is based on the relationship between T.S. (Tom) Eliot and his wife Vivienne Haigh-Wood. In 1915, Tom and Vivienne eloped. Tom did not realize that Vivienne suffered from a severe hormonal imbalance that at times made her complete emotionally unstable. Doctors were not aware of the role hormones played in balancing a woman's physical and emotional well being. No one could help Viv, and the illness progressed until eventually Tom committed his wife to a mental institution. What would have happen to Viv if the doctors had understood the hormonal connection or even cared enough to look outside of tradition medicine to help her? One can only imagine what her life could have been like.

In the 1890s, he builds a time machine that sends him progressively farther into the future. The time travel Alexander stops in 2030 and learns that the Moon is being prepared for colonization. He visits the New York Public Library where he talks with Vox 114, the library's holographic, artificially intelligent librarian. When he ask Vox 114 about time travel, Vox states that such a thing is impossible.

Chris suggests that they pose nude for the Women's Institute's calendar. It took some convincing but eleven middle-aged Englishwomen posed nude for the calendar. The calendar was a big hit in England and has made almost a million dollars for the local hospital.

A photographer Ben, and his girlfriend Jane are out drinking with friends. On the way home they have a car accident, with Jane hitting a girl. He also notices that when looks through his camera, the silhouette always appears. Jane is haunted by the shadows of the woman in the photos and takes the photos to a paranormal publisher. The remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still is still about Klaatu, an alien dignitary, who lands his space ship on the Mall in Washington, D.C. Gort still accompanies Klaatu to Earth; however, Klaatu’s mission this time is to save the Earth by any means necessary. Like the 1951 version, in the 2008 remake, we humans demonstrate our aggression by shooting Klaatu and constantly attacking Gort. As a result, Gort creates a cloud of black smoke that rapidly moves through the air, disintegrating matter and flesh on contact. Only when we are on the brink of destruction, do we see the benefit in changing.
